Alphabet Project – Need just a little Help (about 30 seconds)

Hello Eveyone,

Last week, I attended Kevin Kubota’s mini-boot camp here in Minneapolis.  During the workshop, Kevin offered a challenge to the 200+ photographers in attendance.  He gave a challenge to do an alphabet shoot. Basically, this shoot involves going out and finding every shape in the alphabet in an abstract form.  So last week, I went out and took this little challenge in downtown St Paul.  It was kind of fun!

Now, here is where I could really use your help…Kevin has been gracious enough to round up about $1000 in prizes to the best alphabet project. I would be happy to win some of this stuff ;)There have been 17 entries for this contest (my odds are relatively good).  All I need you to do is to go here and vote on entry 15 of 17 (that’s mine).  There is no sign-up, you just need to click the green  thumbs up for my entry…that’s it and your vote is counted.

Instructions:

1. Go to http://kevinkubota.smugmug.com/Photography/Alphabet-Contest-TCPPA/13854096_D9e4w#1015732422_z4nm4

2. Click on entry 15 of 17 (that’s mine), hover your mouse  to the right on the big version of my entry and click the green “thumbs up”.

3. That’s it…and Thank You

Here is my entry in a little bit more detail…fun project…give it try and it will change the way you look at things!

This Weekend’s Wedding Sneak Peek!

Traveled to Chicago this weekend for Tobin and Heather’s wedding!  Usually I post a very romantic sneak peek image, but I had to post this one…Tobin was one of the most excited grooms I have ever seen during a first look moment.  Doesn’t this image just make you smile? Happy Weekend!

Camping – St Croix MN State Park

Occasionally I like to just post random bits of my life here on the blog. I’ve always struggled with keeping a journal but, for some reason, I really enjoy blogging to record what’s going on in my life.  If you’re looking for some truly compelling images, look at some other blog posts, as this post is to record and remember a bit of fun that Em and I had a few weeks ago.

With Emily in residency and me shooting weddings, it was been extremely difficult for our schedules to sync up.  For the past several weeks, Emily was only off one day a week (Saturday).  Saturday happens to be a popular day for weddings, so I was working on her day off.  This has been the routine for most of the summer.  However, a few weeks ago, the stars aligned for us both!  Em was getting off early on a Friday and didn’t have to return to work till Monday and I didn’t have a wedding that weekend!

We decided the time was long overdue for a camping trip to our favorite place…St Croix State Park.  This campground is gorgeous and has some of the nicest and cleanest bathrooms (Em’s favorite). Since it’s just an hour and a half drive from us, we think it’s the perfect location! We have been to this campground in past years with our good friend the Laws (Nate and Morgan) and the Roses (Thomas and Kristin).  Recently both Thomas and Nate graduated from Law School and have since moved away.  Spending time together at St Croix State Park with these friends have been so memorable, here are some St Croix State Park Pictures from last year.

It was bittersweet this year as we arrived at the campground, just the two of us and Zoe.  It was hotter and more humid and way more mosquito infested than years past, we almost questioned heading back home as it began to rain.  We stuck it out and enjoyed a memorable weekend.  Although, we did not go canoeing or swimming, we did just sit, relax, walk a bit, sleep, and read.  It was refreshing and still memorable.  Honestly, I didn’t have a major desire to take photos…hence there are only a few (and poor ones at that).

Honestly, love and hate this first image

For fun, we set up a timer on the camera on a tripod and would remotely fire the camera to shoot 10 shots as we ran….this is the result. I love how Zoe is trying to keep up with us here.

In efforts to have a little fun on the trip, we invited our friends the Roses and the Laws to join us at the campground.  Although they were plate heads, it was still a good time.

Minneapolis Wedding Photographer – Glenwood MN Wedding – Mike & Bri

Mike and Bri spent the last 3 years in Saipan teaching and only returned just a couple months before their wedding in Glenwood, MN.  However, Bri and company did an amazing job planning her wedding.  I just loved this couple incorporated their own personal style on the wedding day.  There was yellow on the wedding day and lots of it.  The original plan was for an outdoor wedding overlooking the lake.  Despite harsh winds, the weather looked perfect for the wedding…but clouds rolled in after couple hours and the rain started coming.  Plan B was to hold the ceremony at the reception site just down the street.  Needless to say, plan b went of without a hitch.  Mike and Bri exchanged the most unique vows using rhetoric from Dr Seuss’ ‘Green Eggs and Ham”.  It was refreshing, hilarious, and sweet at the same time.

Despite the weather complications, the day was perfect!  Mike & Bri…I wish you two the best and congrats on your new life together!
