Yearly Archives: 2010

Brrrr….

This weekend we were blasted by about 18 inches of snow. I wanted nothing more than to just bundle up with some blankets and watch movies…so that is exactly what I did.  Having moved to Minnesota nearly 5 years ago, I have still not fully accepted these dreadful winters.  It is during this time of year that I curse myself for choosing to live in this “frozen hell”.  I cannot help but notice the thermometer on my desk just broke even at Zero degrees Fahrenheit (it’s noon for crying out loud).  Even Zoe hates this awful weather, she hobbles on 3 legs at a time to give her one leg a break from the frozen ground.  I apologize for my bickering…there’s just something about these temps that makes me less than happy.  From now on…I will try to accept that I will rarely see temps above freezing for the next 4 months.   I guess I will just have to find the silver lining of Mother Nature’s cursed time of year.

Anyone have any suggestions for remaining positive?

Gosh dang it Dave. I was all ready with a snarky comment about Minnesota winters and there he goes and makes them all magical.

Dave P - December 13, 2010 - 12:37 pm

Hey dude, I’ll give you some thoughts from the born-and-raised-in-northern-MN side. Yeah it’s cold, but you can’t argue that the crystal clear blue sky reflecting on 18 inches of fresh snow isn’t one of the most beautiful things ever. And you can enjoy it from your warm home. It seems to follow…the colder it gets, the clearer the air gets. You won’t see a cloudy day when it’s -30 in January. So if you are out in it, you fight the numb hands and feet while shoveling, but that only gives you better reason to get back under those blankets with the hot chocolate, your best friend in the world, and curl up with a good movie. I see it as a chance to enjoy a season that few get to really appreciate. It gets old after a while of course, but then this state sees 95 degrees in the summer, so we get the best of both worlds. That’s what helps me stay positive. It will change again, that’s a guarantee.

Cheers!

St Paul Family PHOtographer–Winter Session–Quick Family

A few weeks ago, I was scheduled to shoot this family.  Given it was practically a blizzard outside, I called Susan to see if she wanted to reschedule and she asked if it would be ok to just go ahead with the shoot.  I was more than happy to take on this type of shoot.  This family was absolutely perfect for this type of snowy shoot.  Despite spending an hour or so getting my car un-stuck after the shoot, I just love these images!

Awesome pictures john!! I would LOVE pictures like that!!

I’m always way to scared to shoot in the snow because I’m afraid it will ruin my camera. Did you cover yours up?

Minneapolis Wedding Photographer–Bloomington Embassy suites–Kelly & Jason

I’m super excited to present Kelly and Jason’s wedding.  I couldn’t have asked for better November weather in Minnesota and I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to conclude my 2010 weddings.  The light was gorgeous and I just love this couple! While shooting their engagement session, I learned that Kelly and Jason are huge fans of America’s Next Top Model, which happens to also be one of my guilty pleasure TV shows.  It was a match made in heaven…

Kelly and Jason…thanks for making my last 2010 wedding an awesome finale!  You two are just wonderful together and I wish you all the best in your journey together!

best,
John

Roseville Family Photographer–Hadden-Peck Maternity Photos

Elizabeth contacted me about 7 days before her due date to book this session.  She told me she was having twins and that she didn’t have much time.  We were able to pull off a last-minute morning shoot just three days before she had a boy and a girl.  The morning was a bit chilly, but the light was just perfect!  Congrats to Mom and Dad!!!
