Meet John!

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I specialize in Wedding & Portrait photography. My photography seeks to express emotion. I wake up each day and adhere to a strict diet of eating, drinking, and sleeping photography. I love nothing more than to capture two people in love. My camera allows me to captures moments that may go otherwise unnoticed. I’m not your “stand there while I count 1,2,3…Cheese” type of photographer. My past clients would tell you it’s likely you will see me shooting from trees, hanging off boat docks, laying on my stomach in sub-zero temperature, or standing over the edge of a bridge. I do whatever it takes to “get the shot”. I love shooting people and can honestly say “I’m livin’ the dream”.

I live with my amazing wife Emily, my daughter Eliza, and my sweet dog Zoe. When I'm not carrying my camera around, I enjoy cycling, rollerblading, and listening to live music. Trying out unique food (Thai, Indian, Turkish, Russian, etc.) makes me happy!

Eliza– 1st Birthday!!!

One year ago today, my life changed forever when baby Eliza was born! My family grew from 2 to 3! This past year has been a blur and I learned more about love than I ever thought possible. I cannot believe my baby girl is already a year old!!! Everyday I consider myself unbelievably lucky to have her in my life!

Over the weekend, we threw Eliza her first birthday party! Em is obsessed with Pinterest and used that site to pull together nearly every detail of the party. She did a wonderful job planning, and I played a big part in the execution. I’m pretty proud of the photo display and and paper lanterns that I put up : ) Wow, decorating was a ton of work!!! Emily’s sister flew in for the party as well and did a fantastic job with the cake and cupcakes. Not only delicious, but tasty as well!

Eliza’s cake smash was the highlight of the party. She hadn’t had sugar up till this point. She LOVED her cake, but she kept suspiciously looking up at us to see if it was okay for her to eat this delicious desert. She was adorable all day…it was so much fun! I thought being a photographer was the best job in the whole world, but I’m pretty sure being a dad has superseded that job. I love this little girl so much!!!

Em GREAT JOB on her party! I was dying to know how it turned out because I saw all your pins! Very very cute!

And Jon great pictures! again like always you are such a great photographer! Jess did a photoshoot of my kids the other day and it was eXHAUSTING to say the least! My hat is off to you for doing that so much and loving it!

and the birthday girl is simply scrumptious! I love how guilty and sneaky she looks in her cake pictures! And em did you make her cute dress!? darling!

Happy Birthday to a beautiful girl with the hugest bluest eyes I’ve ever seen!! She is darling as can be, really. And her party decor and details were adorable! Good job!! My fav are the gorgeous pics hanging up:) You’ve inspired me to print all my pics with a white border around them from now on. I love that!

ELiza–4 Months

This post is long overdue! Eliza will be five months tomorrow, so I probably should post her four month photos. I’ve received some very nice emails and have met people at weddings that have asked, “What happened to posting photos of Eliza?”. I don’t want to overwhelm the blog with Eliza, but I’ll try to post 1-2 times a monthEliza is so fun right now, she is so smiley and laughs all the time. She is starting to develop such a cute little personality. I loved the newborn stage, but this stage has been so fun because she is starting to interact with us. We took these photos recently and they are some of my favorites of her. Looking at these photos just makes me smile.

Eliza’s favorite toy is Sophie the Giraffe, she loves it!

I refer to Eliza as “Poopers” and “Spitter” for obvious reasons, see below

Eliza–3 months

12 May 2011 Children

I cannot believe my baby girl is already 3 months. Time is going too fast! I’m so lucky to have so much time with Eliza. She has been growing so fast and I was so excited to finally photograph her outside!! We have been so cooped up in the house and I’ve shot Eliza in just about every square inch of our house. The temps finally were warm enough as Spring has been running well behind schedule (even for Minnesota). Last Saturday was so nice that we actually shot in morning and late afternoon. Eliza has been learning to laugh and make lots of sounds. She melts my heart every time she smiles at me. I considered myself a “softy” before having Eliza but now I’m just pathetic. She has quickly become daddy’s little girl! It’s exciting that when she hears my voice, her eyes open wide and she looks around.

Eliza has so many expressions, she keeps Em and I laughing all the time. I’m convinced that if these images below do not make you smile, you obviously have no heart Below are some of my favorites…
